Consumer product categories will register strong growth in FY11-12 — P&G Pakistan

P&G celebrates 20 years of touching and improving Pakistani lives

October 20, 2011: Since its first shipment of Head & Shoulders shampoo in 1991, P&G has grown to be amongst the top consumer goods companies in Pakistan. Celebrating 20 years of its presence in the country, P&G has been successful at winning the trust and confidence of Pakistani consumers by introducing premium quality brands and sustaining investments in the community, industry and human resource.

Sharing his thoughts at this milestone, Bob McDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer of P&G said "Over the past 2 decades, we've launched brands like Pampers, Always, Safeguard, Head & Shoulders and Pantene which are improving the lives of Pakistani consumers every single day. Through our business growth we have invested in Pakistan by building factories and a strong supply base. This has led to the creation of hundreds of jobs directly and indirectly. We are also improving lives of the community with programs like Pampers Mobile Clinics, Safeguard and Always School programs. Importantly, Pakistan is the global production hub for our Chidlren's Safe Drinking Water packets, these packets are saving lives of consumers in need across the globe and its being noticed. Pakistan continues to remain a high potential and an important country for Procter and Gamble globally. We're poised for future growth in Pakistan and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones here in the years ahead."

For the past two decades, P&G has touched and improved lives of millions of Pakistanis in meaningful ways; by delighting consumers with premium quality brands, uplifting the community through social cause projects and developing local skill by enabling employees to realize their true potential. Often dubbed as a multinational success story in Pakistan, P&G set up its first plant in Hub Baluchistan to manufacture soap in 1994. Sabzwari recounts the investment as "a humble beginning to improve the lives of Pakistanis in the country". The same plant has now become the origin of the premium quality anti-bacterial soap Safeguard and the global supplier of a non for profit water purifier PuR. Building on its investment profile, P&G Pakistan inaugurated a state-of-the-art dry laundry detergent plant in Port Qasim in December 2010. With this investment P&G Pakistan started local production of the much celebrated detergent brand Ariel. Over the course of two decades P&G Pakistan has created hundreds of millions of dollars in local value addition resulting in significant local supplier base development. P&G has provided direct and indirect employment opportunities to thousands of Pakistanis. P&G brand offerings are a result of significant investments in understanding the Pakistani consumers to deliver innovative products and campaigns that truly improve the quality of life of Pakistanis each and every day.

With the strong business growth, P&G has continued to fulfill its commitment to helping children in need under its corporate cause called Live, Learn and Thrive (LLT). Under the LLT umbrella P&G corporate as well as brand programs have provided quality education and health & hygiene awareness to over 21 million Pakistanis to date.

P&G continues to have a positive future outlook for Pakistan. According to Faisal Sabzwari, "Consumer product categories will report strong volume and value growth driven by rising consumer spending - a result of the expanding population, evolving retail landscape, and higher disposable incomes in rural and semi-rural households.
