P&G employees lead educational trips for P&G-HOPE school students

KARACHI, March 26, 2010: In line with P&G’s corporate community cause of helping children in need to Live, Learn and Thrive, the Company organized educational trips for underprivileged students from the P&G-HOPE schools to WWF Pakistan’s Wetland Centre in Karachi. This educational as well as fun trip provided 100 students from the P&G-HOPE informal schools network an opportunity to learn about the importance of nature and its conservation by gaining first hand information of the coastal wetlands, marine turtles and mangroves forest in the Sandspit area. Each trip was led by a group of passionate P&G employees who volunteered their time and effort in engaging with the children and guiding them through the tour.

Through presentations led by WWF representatives, the children were thrilled to learn about marine turtle rehabilitation as well as the importance and benefits of mangrove forests. This was followed by a physical mangrove plantation exercise by the children and P&G employee volunteers. The backwater boat ride allowed students the opportunity to observe various types of migratory birds which they had learnt about in the presentation.

P&G Pakistan partners with Health Oriented Preventive Education (HOPE) under the “Keeping the HOPE Alive” project to provide primary education to underprivileged children. Through this initiative P&G Pakistan is funding 60 informal schools across Karachi and Thatta to date educating 2000 children in their neighborhoods for free. Moreover, the Company has organized a number of fun-filled educational trips with the aim of creating awareness amongst children about nature as well as the country’s national and cultural heritage and enabling children to thrive by helping build their confidence and interpersonal skills through interaction with P&G employee volunteers.
