P&G-HELP school inaugurated at Port Qasim

KARACHI, November 11, 2010: P&G Port Qasim Plant in collaboration with NGO Health Education Literacy Program (HELP) established its first school in the Port Qasim vicinity. The school is aimed at providing pre-primary education to underprivileged children of the local community of Ghaggar Phattak who otherwise have limited access to educational opportunities. The inauguration of the P&G-HELP School was performed by Mr. Mir Afsar Din Talpur, Director General Planning & Development, Port Qasim Authority (PQA), amongst presence of senior P&G management and HELP officials.

The inauguration of the school received warm welcome from the residents who have registered and admitted their children in the hope to provide them with basic education. The school at present caters to students from the pre-primary section and has a total strength of 100 children.

Addressing the guests at the occasion Sherif Gomaa, P&G Port Qasim Plant Manager said: “P&G prides itself in being a socially responsible company which focuses on improving lives wherever it operates. Our first P&G-HELP School in the area will provide education to the underprivileged and also create job opportunities. This is the start of a journey that P&G Port Qasim plant has undertaken. We hope to strengthen our CSR projects in the communities we operate in to deliver on our promise of touching and improving more lives more completely.”

The Chief Guest at the occasion was Mr. Mir Afsar Din Talpur, Director General, Planning and Development, Port Qasim Authority. He highlighted the significance of such projects in the Port Qasim region and said that the P&G-HELP School in the Port Qasim region demonstrated the beginning of P&G’s commitment and dedication to the social development of the Port Qasim people and to him this beginning was impressive. He also referred to the saying of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) ‘receive education even if you have to travel to China for it’ and said that it is a blessing that the Port Qasim community can receive education at their doorstep.

The inauguration of the school is another step in the series of social community efforts by P&G under its Live, Learn and Thrive (LLT) corporate cause. P&G LLT programs aim to serve local communities where P&G operates with opportunities for a better quality of life. Keeping in view the country’s needs in the area of health and education, over the past 2 decades, P&G Pakistan has been involved in many community projects in the field of education, health and hygiene awareness.
