Nurses and Midwives trained on femcare at Health and Hygiene Seminar

Karachi, 25th August, 2009: Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Pakistan (SOGP) and the Procter & Gamble Pakistan Always Team held informative sessions for midwives and nurses from various institutions and hospitals of Karachi and Lahore, in an effort to bring the message of health and hygiene to young girls and women across the two cities.

The educational workshops, attended by many members of the medical community, aimed to create awareness amongst nurses and midwives about good feminine health and hygiene practices and the positive role they play in promoting these practices within our society. Over the years, the Always and SOGP partnership has strived to educate young girls through the School Education Program and to date have reached around 4 million girls. This program aims to educate them about the physiological and psychological changes one goes through while growing up, along with guidance on feminine hygiene.

”Nurses and Midwives play a key role in promoting health and hygiene amongst women and it is imperative that they are educated and informed about good hygiene practices. The purpose of these seminars is to impart essential knowledge and skills that will enable them to play a positive role in raising awareness about feminine health and hygiene”, said Dr. Shershah Syed, President, SOGP.

Medical experts from SOGP presented a wide range of topics including the challenges of nursing profession in Pakistan, hygienic methods of sanitation, puberty and myths associated with it along with the social, physical and emotional changes girls go through at this stage of life.
