Students showcase their skills in P&G CEO Challenge

Karachi, February 4, 2015: P&G, the maker of world renowned products such as Pampers, Always, Safeguard, Ariel, Head & Shoulders and Pantene, provided students from universities across Pakistan an exciting opportunity to test their entrepreneurial skills in a regional case study competition titled "P&G CEO Challenge".

The P&G CEO Challenge went live in more than 7 countries, providing students international exposure and a true insight into how a multinational company like P&G operates. The initiative is born from P&G's 'promote-from-within' approach to leadership development which focuses on recruiting the best talent and investing in their development. P&G's commitment to developing future leaders is well-renowned - Chief Executive Magazine has named P&G the best overall company for leadership development in its list of "Best Companies for Leaders" for 3 consecutive years.

In line with the same spirit, the P&G CEO Challenge aims at developing and grooming university students by providing substantial leadership opportunities for them early on, before they embark on their professional journey. The P&G CEO Challenge saw a large number of applications with more than 700 teams registering from over 20 universities across Pakistan. The competition was divided into five phases and followed an elimination process in which teams were provided a case specific to P&G brands. Each brand case focused on the different functional elements of managing business on the brand. The top 5 teams participated in phase 3, competing for the opportunity to represent Pakistan in the cluster round against university teams from the Middle East region. The teams were required to brainstorm and present innovative solutions to the business problems specific to their case with the winning team from Pakistan emerging from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

Murtaza Ali Jaffri, a LUMS MBA student from the team representing Pakistan in the cluster round, said: "The P&G CEO Challenge tested our financial, marketing and retail skills. It is a very well-rounded competition which focuses on different aspects of the business. It has given us a holistic experience of what a business is really like and what it takes to launch a new variant in the market. We applied the concepts learnt in class, drew from other educational experiences as well, and worked as a team to generate solutions for our specific business case. The interaction with senior P&G leadership is invaluable and will definitely help us further hone our skills."

Commenting on this initiative, Mehreen Cheema, P&G Pakistan's Talent Practice Leader emphasized how the competition is in line with P&G's vision to develop future leaders by reaching and engaging with university students across the country. "Our people are P&G's greatest asset and this is what makes us unique. We aim to attract, hire and retain the very best talent and invest in growing and developing that talent over time. Talent development is a top priority for P&G and therefore initiatives such as the P&G CEO Challenge are designed to provide the youth of this country opportunities to develop themselves into some of the finest business leaders in future."
