P&G Children's Safe Drinking Water Program Celebrates 10 Billion Liter Milestone

P&G Children's Safe Drinking Water Program Celebrates 10 Billion Liter Milestone Karachi, Pakistan, May 4, 2016 Procter & Gamble (P&G), the maker of world renowned products such as Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Ariel and Pampers, has delivered 10 billion liters of clean drinking water through its non-profit Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program.

Nearly 700 million people worldwide struggle each day without access to safe drinking water. The P&G CSDW Program, which started in 2004, works with more than 150 partners and organizations to provide clean drinking water to those who lack access to clean water. The P&G CSDW Program has established ongoing initiatives across the globe, working with a network of partners to reach even the most remote areas in Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria and Indonesia. The 10 billionth liter was shared with Margarita, Gabriel and their children Alejandro and Lorena who are part of a World Vision community project near Oaxaca, Mexico.

P&G Pakistan Country Manager, Sami Ahmed, said "In Pakistan an overwhelming number of people lack access to safe drinking water. We are committed to provide clean drinking water to Pakistani communities in times of natural disasters and through ongoing community programs." He added, "Through the P&G CSDW Program, to date we have made available more than 850 million liters of clean drinking water to Pakistani communities in need."

P&G scientists used cleaning technology research to invent P&G Purifier of Water packets in partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Company, which has a strong history of cleaning performance with brands such as Ariel and Tide, used its innovative capability to pack the power of a water treatment plant into a small 4 gram sachet.

The technology is simple to use, with only a bucket, a spoon, a cloth and a small P&G packet, people can purify 10 liters of dirty, potentially deadly water in only 30 minutes providing enough drinking water for a family of five for one day.

P&G is committed to delivering 15 billion liters of clean water by 2020.
