P&G and Moms unite to nurture tomorrow’s sports stars

Karachi, August 8, 2012 :Procter & Gamble, a Worldwide Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Games, inaugurated its first sports facility at a local school in Karachi under the P&G Thank You Maa campaign. In an effort to elevate the spirit of sports and help mothers raise healthy, happy children through sports in Pakistan, P&G has built a multi-purpose ground with hockey, basketball, football, volleyball and cricket facilities at the Government Girls Secondary School in Mehmoodabad. This school is one of the many schools which will benefit from the contribution made by consumers using P&G products under the 1 pack = 1 contribution campaign. Overall, this campaign will reach out to 50,000 children who otherwise would not have access to such sports facilities across Pakistan.

Sharing her views at the ceremony, Veena Masud, Associate Secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association, said, This is a global partnership which brings together P&G's Purpose of touching and improving peoples lives and the Olympic Movement purpose of building a better world through sport. The children of our country are very talented and energetic. But the lack of sports resources limits them from reaching their true potential. It gives us great pleasure to know that P&G has taken this step in the arena of sports to provide children who did not have access to sports with equipment and facilities in schools across Pakistan.

At the ceremony, P&G the Proud Sponsor of Moms, showcased its Raising an Olympian momumentary to pay tribute to Pakistani mothers. As the name suggests, the video is a heart-felt gesture of gratitude which honors and celebrates Mothers for the unconditional love and support they offer to help their children realize their dreams. The momumentary shares the inspirational story of Sohail Abbas, Pakistan's hockey star and world record holder of the highest number of penalty goals and his mother.

Through this initiative P&G is committed to touch and improve the lives of mothers, athletes and families in Pakistan said Saad Rao, Brand Manager, P&G Pakistan. He added: Sports form a very essential element in a person's childhood as it provides children with an avenue to express their energy positively. This has inspired us to provide opportunities to children who do not have access to sports by contributing towards the development of sports facilities and equipment in schools across the country. We believe that these children can become tomorrow's star sportsman of the country.
