Fun Facts about Volume and Fine Hair

  • A typical fine hair diameter is equal to half the thickness of a sheet of paper (56 microns)

  • If all the hairs on a single head of hair 12" long were laid end- to-end, they would stretch 26 miles

  • The total surface area of a head of hair 12" in length is equal to the floor of a 9’ by 4’ room (imagine spreading a dollop of hair gel over your entire bathroom floor before it dries!)

  • Fine hair is twice as easy to break as medium-textured hair

  • Fine hair has fewer cuticle layers and thus is easier to damage vs. medium and coarse-textured hair

  • Increasing hair volume by only 1/2 to 1" is perceived as a very exciting change by consumers
