Pet Health & Nutrition
Procter & Gamble is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of its four-legged consumers through superior nutrition. The company has a clear policy regarding animals in research for the development of pet health and nutrition products, which is compatible with how we develop products intended for people. We will not participate in any study requiring the euthanasia of cats or dogs when developing our pet health and nutritional products. We will only conduct the veterinary equivalent of any tests on cats or dogs that are acceptable in nutritional or medical studies in people. Further, we are committed to reducing and eliminating the requirement for testing in other animals in place of our consumers—cats and dogs.

Iams
Our research has resulted in major advances in nutritional health benefits for cats and dogs around the world. A significant amount of our research relies on alternative methods, such as in vitro fiber fermentation that mimics the digestive process in the colon of a cat or dog. When research does involve the use of animals, such as studies on food preferences of cats and dogs, we require that a strict code of ethics be followed that meets or exceeds any relevant animal welfare standards and regulations (e.g., federal standards in the United States and Directive 86/609/EEC in the European Union).
