| A.G. Lafley Named "CEO of the Year" |
 |
Chief Executive Magazine today announced they have chosen A.G. Lafley as the "CEO of the Year."
It was a unanimous decision from the selection panel, chaired by George David, CEO of United Technologies and the magazine’s 2005 CEO of the Year. Other panelists included three previous CEO of the Year honorees: Frederick W. Smith, chairman and CEO of FedEx, Sanford I. Weill of Citigroup and C.V. Starr’s Hank Greenberg as well as Chuck Lee, former chairman of Verizon.
"A.G. Lafley was selected by acclamation by this distinguished panel of judges for re-energizing a venerable company," said William J. Holstein, Editor-in-Chief of Chief Executive Magazine. "He launched a series of acquisitions including a $54 billon deal for Gillette and turned P&G into a $68 billion a year multinational leader while his company’s profit margins and stock price have outperformed competitors."
AG joins the ranks of past "CEO of the Year" winners including Michael Dell of Dell Computer; Herb Kelleher of Southwest Airlines; Andrew Grove of Intel; Roberto C. Goizueta of Coca-Cola; and Jack Welch of General Electric. He will formally accept the award at a dinner at the New York Stock Exchange on 12 July 2006.
In accepting the honor, AG said, "My job is to unleash the creativity, initiative, leadership, and productivity of P&G people. They are the leaders who’ve delivered the results of the past five and a half years, and it’s on their behalf that I accept this recognition."
