The Design Function leads the work of infusing Design Thinking into the DNA of P&G in order to build irresistible brands that create an emotional connection and delight consumers. Design brings a unique set of capabilities, and a way of thinking, that complement other P&G strengths. We use a highly collaborative approach that works within multi-functional teams, is intuitive, and helps bring emotion and the consumer experience to the innovation process.

Overview/Description

Design Managers at P&G are the creative force behind the development of designs that best fit our brands' image to ensure holistic communication across all consumer touch points. We work to understand consumer needs, business strategies and relevant cost criteria. We have a passion for design leadership, strategy development, and innovation. We globally collaborate with multi-functional teams to work on a mix of future brand and product explorations as well as current business-building programs.

The designers in the function come from a variety of disciplines including graphic design, industrial design, interior design, fashion design, architecture, brand strategy, and trend analysis.

Primary Responsibilities

Design Managers at P&G are responsible for executing key elements of a brand’s holistic visual identity, developing new and innovative products, creating innovative primary and secondary packaging, and developing in-store communications, counters and displays for P&G’s products worldwide. Individuals in these roles need to be able to provide strategic and visionary direction to architect the brand and related consumer in-store activities. They will be responsible for project management activities for internal multi-functional teams as well as managing the results of our external design partners.

Candidate Qualifications

Design Managers

Strong leadership experience, problem solving, communication and collaboration skills are required. Prefer individuals who have worked in a related consumer brand, have managed staff and related budgets and have demonstrated experience with shaping the strategic direction of major brand via brand equity, brand architecture, product development, and design language while driving the business and competitive advantage.

Associate Director — Design

Responsible for leading all aspects of related design initiatives across multiple brands and/or categories. Strong leadership experience, problem solving, communication and collaboration skills are required. Prefer individuals who have worked in a related consumer brand, have managed staff and related budgets and have demonstrated experience with shaping the strategic direction of major brand via brand equity, brand architecture, and design language while driving the business and competitive advantage. These individuals will be responsible for developing equity-building consumer experiences, while driving the strategic direction of the product or category. Experience managing external design firms and internal resources required.

Director — Design

Head of Design for a Global Corporate Business Unit (i.e., Global Beauty Care, Corporate Functions, Global Business Services, Global Household Care, Global Health & Well-Being, Global Operations). Responsible for all aspects of Design including Product Innovation, Brand Identity and Market Expertise (Industrial Design, Graphic Design, and in-store)
  • Member of Business Unit President’s Strategic Leadership Team.
  • Sets overall vision and direction of Corporate Design capability.
  • Responsible for multiple categories
  • Manages and develops multiple Design Associate Directors
  • Sponsors multi-functional teams

Will have demonstrated project management skills, ability to grow the business, set strategic tone for growth of brand, and strong knowledge of related consumer base and products. Must be able to manage direct and dotted-line staff, manage budgets, set strategic tone and direction of brand/category, oversee all design aspects of the business, category, etc.

Academic Qualifications

Brand Identity roles: Prefer degree in graphic art, fine art, packaging.
Product Innovation roles: Prefer degree in industrial design
In-store roles: Prefer candidates with degree in industrial design or architecture.

Specific Requirements

Brand identity roles will require experience with graphic art and design. Must be able to facilitate the development of strong Brand Equities including: design brief, visual positioning, brand architecture, Visual brand character, packaging design and other in-store and collateral material.

Product Innovation roles will require experience with product development from within an industrial design function. Strong knowledge of 2-D, 3-D or Visual Communications design. Experience developing innovative products, or for FMOT roles development of creative in-store displays, counter design required.
