Clairol Celebrates 80 Years of Colour

Posted on 09-Aug-2011

Hair colour trends come and go but with over 80 years of experience, Clairol continue to deliver fabulous, natural looking hair colour.

Clairol introduced its first hair colour in 1931 with a whole new philosophy of hair colouring: the idea that beautiful hair was every woman's birth right and that hair colouring was as basic to beautiful hair as make-up and skincare were to a beautiful face. 80 years later and today, Clairol is the UK’s No.1 home hair colour brand[1] with over 45% of women buying home hair colour in the last year[2].

The movement in home hair colouring started in 1931 when American, Lawrence M. Gelb discovered an intriguing hair colouring preparation called Clairol. Unlike other hair colourants, which coated the hair, Clairol actually penetrated the hair shaft, producing softer, more natural looking tones. Unlike any hair colouring product then available, it was quick, easy to use and the results were predictable. Put simply, it was a revolutionary breakthrough that would permanently alter the art of hair colouring.

Clairol know women in the UK want to look their best and hair colour is an important part of this - nearly 72% of women say they feel more confident and attractive after they’ve coloured their hair[3]. Clairol have succeeded in developing colourants through the years to keep up with the developing needs of its beauty loving consumers. Clairol… 80 years young with no sign of fading.
