Katie Taylor Unveiled As P&G Ambassador

P&G today announced world boxing champion and Olympic gold medal hopeful Katie Taylor, as P&G’s Ambassador for Ireland. P&G is the company behind some of the world’s best known household brands, including Ariel, Duracell, Fairy, Gillette, Pampers and Olay.

In July next year Ireland will send approximately 50 athletes to compete in 10-12 sports at London 2012. Katie, much hailed as one of Ireland’s best medal hopes, will be part of that 50-strong Irish team.

As a P&G Ambassador, Katie will work on P&G’s Irish marketing activities, but in a first for the boxer, Katie will work alongside her mum Bridget. They will both be a part of the P&G Proud Sponsor of Mums campaign, which puts mums at its heart, recognising, celebrating and thanking them for the important roles they play in their families’ lives.

Roisin Donnelly, Marketing Director, P&G UK and Ireland, said, “For more than 80 years in Ireland, Mum has been our boss. Mums have driven our product innovation and our marketing communication, it’s for this reason we’re putting Katie & her mum at the heart of this campaign”.

Katie added, “I was delighted to be asked by P&G to be part of their campaign. I am very close to my family and P&G’s campaign keeps families at its core and that’s important to me. I’m really looking forward to working on all aspects of the campaign.”

Pat Hickey, President Olympic Council of Ireland commented, “We are delighted to have a global sponsor such as P&G on board and look forward to working with them for the benefit of Irish athletes as we prepare for London 2012.“

The ‘Proud Sponsor of Mums’ campaign will feature throughout P&G’s sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympic Games. P&G’s Olympic Games partnership is the most far-reaching in Olympic history, beginning with London 2012 and incorporating Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games. The sponsorship is the first to cover multiple brands under one sponsor and will span the next 10 years, over 30 product categories and 205 National Olympic Committees to raise awareness of and reward mums’ contributions globally.
