They say an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Even in the case of diarrhea, one of the top three child-killing diseases in the world, prevention is always best. With this in mind, a team of health experts recently visited schools to teach children about it.
According to a 2002 soap-health study in Pakistan, 10 percent of children die before their fifth birthday, with 40 percent of the deaths caused by diarrhea. The same study also proves that frequent hand washing with soap can bring down the incidence of diarrhea by as much as 50 percent.
The Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET), led by its president Dr. Leila Florento, gave lectures about the causes of diarrhea and how to keep the disease at bay by frequent hand washing with soap.
Dr. Florento said, "We want children to know what is good for them by teaching them to hand wash with Safeguard®. At the same time, we want the parents' vote of confidence for Safeguard in keeping their children safe from diarrhea. We should not lose focus on children's health despite the colorful campaigns this election season."
With the team was "Captain Safeguard," who read a giant adventure storybook with the children and rallied them to support Safeguard's campaign for good health and hygiene.
