P&G Worldwide: 170 Years of Excellence It all started in the early nineteenth century when William Procter, English candle maker, and James Gamble, Irish soap maker settled in Cincinnati. Having married sisters, they became business partners, making and selling their soaps and candles themselves. In 1837, they formalized their business relationship and Procter & Gamble (P&G) was officially born. P&G has been booming ever since, continuing to grow rapidly in size and products and taking delight in serving its consumers with its constant innovations.

P&G Levant: Touching lives, improving life |
By 1890, P&G was selling more than 30 different types of soap. To meet the increasing demand of consumers, the Company expanded its operations outside Cincinnati, with plants in Kansas City and Ontario, Canada. As each new plant opened, P&G would embark on plans for another. Innovative new products rolled out one after another. |

Historically, Research & Development (R&D) has been a key contributor to our success, and we consider technical innovation an absolutely critical component of our future growth. |
 |
P&G’s brands first appeared in the Middle East back in 1946 in Lebanon, later spreading to Jordan in the 1970s, Syria in the late 1990s and Iraq this millennium. |
