 P&G Canada supports appropriate environmental management actions by the consumer product industry. We actively participate in public discussions with trade associations, government regulators and public interest groups, sharing information and expertise on many aspects of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and Regulations. P&G participates in a variety of educational events and technical panels, along with other stakeholders, to help ensure Canada's broader environmental protection goals can be met. P&G has received an award of merit from the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for leadership in the development and advancement of international standards in environmental labeling. We are currently participating in a CSA project developing a science-based definition for household special waste, enabling appropriate national management practices. |

 P&G Canada has been a leader in waste-reduction efforts for more than 15 years, participating in provincial and federal programs aimed at reducing, reusing and recycling. We offer expertise in helping to develop an integrated solid waste-management policy, including municipal waste-management practices in Canada. We strive to minimize waste, while ensuring that products and packages are safe and effective. When feasible, we use recycled and/or recyclable materials in our packaging. P&G participated in Canada's voluntary National Packaging Protocol, which exceeded the goal to reduce packaging waste by 50 percent, by the year 2000. As a member of Corporations Supporting Recycling (CSR), P&G is committed to the goal of diverting packaging and other materials from the waste stream. As a member of Collection Selective du Quebec (CSQ), P&G also supports the recycling programs in Quebec. |

 Our environmental protection efforts are based on an expert understanding of our products, packages and their ingredients. Our scientists work proactively with universities and other experts to develop improved methods for assessing and reducing potential impacts on the environment. P&G's environmental safety experts evaluate all ingredients and products before they can be marketed, to ensure they will be safe during manufacturing, use and disposal. P&G has a 10-year funding commitment to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Industrial Research Chair in Environmental Modeling at Trent University. This funding was pivotal in the establishment of the Canadian Environmental Modeling Centre (CEMC), a research group with a strong record of scientific publication and high-calibre students. P&G is proud to be a major supporter of their internationally recognized and leading-edge work. Working with Environment Canada, this has included supporting the CEMC's work on a Wastewater Treatment Plant model to improve assessments for personal care and cleaning product ingredients.
