USA: P&G Goes to Pantene® Beautiful Lengths
Randall Chinchilla, P&G Health & Beauty — Cincinnati
23 October 2006
One in three women will be diagnosed with cancer during her lifetime. Among the side effects of cancer treatment, hair loss is one of the most feared. Fifty-eight percent of women say they fear hair loss more than any other side effect of treatment. Eight percent even consider foregoing potentially lifesaving treatments to avoid losing their hair.
Pantene created the Beautiful Lengths program to help support women in their highly personal struggle. Launched in partnership with the Entertainment Industry Foundation™, Pantene Beautiful Lengths encourages people to grow, cut and donate their hair to make free, real-hair wigs for women suffering from hair loss. Men, women and children around the country have adopted this campaign as their own, donating more than 9,000 ponytails to date.

Recently, P&G employees gathered at Cincinnati's General Offices to bring the company's philanthropic vision to life in a very personal way. General Manager & Vice President of North American Haircare Craig Bahner shared inspirational letters sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths along with hair donations. Facing an enthusiastic crowd, several P&G employees and relatives donated their own ponytails to the program. Sonsoles Gonzalez, Vice President for Global Herbal Essences® and Pantene, donated her own hair to the cause. "Our passion for women's hair and women's health inspired us to create a personal, powerful way Americans can support women in a life-changing struggle," commented Ms. Gonzalez. "Thanks to the generosity of people who grow, cut and donate their hair, Pantene Beautiful Lengths will create beautiful, real-hair wigs for women living with cancer." More P&G employees contributed their ponytails at an event held by The Sharon Woods Research Center, and the donations continue as P&G employees adopt this campaign as their own.
