With that purchase, the Specialized Packaging Group was born, becoming the largest minority-owned manufacturer and printer of folding cartons in America.
In 2003, Carlton bought Focus Packaging in Greensboro, N.C. P&G was instrumental in this sale as well. The new acquisition by Carlton made his company the primary supplier of cartons for P&G's billion-dollar Crest® brand.
In the span of less than a decade, Specialized Packaging Group has grown to be the 10th-largest folding-carton manufacturer in the country. Viewed as an outstanding provider of folding cartons, SPG is doing business with a number of major corporations throughout the U.S. They remain one of P&G's top global carton suppliers.
Carlton's passion for providing superior packaging is only exceeded by his passion for education. His work as part of the "I Have a Dream" program included adopting a fourth-grade class at East Rock School in New Haven, Conn. Carlton and SPG are working to ensure that the students who graduate from high school will be able to go to college without any financial concerns. It's a great example of how minority-owned business owners help to shape and develop minority communities in the U.S. SPG is clearly meeting P&G's values ... Touching Lives, Improving Life.
