			Watch the safe drinking water video Visit the Children's Safe Drinking Water web site More than 5,000 children die every day from diseases caused by drinking unsafe water. Our goal is to reduce that number substantially. In collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have developed a low-cost technology called ® Purifier of WaterTM, to purify even heavily contaminated drinking water so that it meets World Health Organization standards for safe drinking water. Studies show that the sachets can reduce diarrhea illness in children up to 50 percent. How the Children's Safe Drinking Water Program Improves Lives P&G provides the product that has already yielded millions of liters of safe drinking water. The product has been used by UNICEF, Samaritan's Purse®, World Vision, International Relief Committee, Care, Red Cross, AmeriCares® and others to respond to some of the most critical global emergency relief situations, including the tsunami in Asia, hurricanes in the Caribbean, and floods in the Philippines and Bangladesh. AmeriCares has reported P&G's technology is saving lives in Chad and the Sudan, and Johns Hopkins has shown that reduced diarrhea by more than 90 percent in a Liberian refugee camp. In addition, P&G — in collaboration with Population Services International (PSI), the U.S. and U.K. governments and Johns Hopkins University — has launched social markets in several countries with acute water-borne disease issues to create sustainable delivery of in-home purification of drinking water. Our Children's Safe Drinking Water program has been recognized by several global organizations for making an important contribution to children and families without access to safe drinking water. This includes: International Chamber of Commerce and United National Development Program World Business Award in support of the Millennium Development Goals 2005 Stockholm Industry Water Award Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum Children's Safe Drinking Water Project Scope This program is much more than simply the amount of money we are investing. We are demonstrating social commitment through our active participation in a number of collaborations with groups such as the WHO Network, International Council of Nurses Alliance, Safe Drinking Water Alliance, the Center for International and Strategic Studies, and the Aspen Institute. We are providing both our expertise and financial support to this work. We also believe it is a good opportunity to learn about new partnerships that will allow us to bring other innovations to people in the developing world and, over time, enable us to help even more children in need.
